The younger you are, the more likely you’ve heard of a specific niche type of social site – those with live, streaming cams. Now, we’re not talking about web sites catering to the saucier and more risqué…or downright pornographic stuff, but more like sites such as Stickam, UStream, LiveStream, and Omegle. On these sites, preteens, teens, young adults and older folks turn on their web cams and socialize with fellow cam users. No doubt, this type of site can be a blast and a quick way to make a ton of new friends, but there are differences between them.
Stickam is was more dedicated to live, streaming, user-generated chat, video and content, while Omegle follows the path of matching two random strangers from anywhere in the world.
Stickam is now shutting down, but not before hundreds, possibly thousands of screen captures were taken of unsuspecting girls and women thinking “private” actually meant private. Omegle, on the other hand, is still alive and “well” and is the home of what are often called Omegle Wins.
Below are the more common occurrences going on at these types of sites and the dangers therein.
1. Someone’s doing their best to entertain the masses.
Whether it be a budding comedian, a woman trying to give makeup tips, or someone having a thought-provoking conversation with his viewers, many love to get themselves out there and become “known.”
2. Some guy is masturbating.
Okay, scratch that. There are a ton of guys masturbating. Apparently, having random strangers pop up on a screen on the off chance they’ll get off to seeing him get off is very appealing to some guys. They seem to think that women adore the sight of a guy holding his manhood and shaking it around. They envision girls and women salivating and begging them to continue. Now, granted, there are those types of women out there, and there’s no shame in that, but what if the random stranger is a 13-year-old girl? Then this can present a problem, don’t you think? True, there are “under 18” and “over 18” sections on Omegle now, but the “over 18” sections are unmonitored. Good thing teens and preteens never lie about their age online, right?
3. Some girl is fed up with seeing all the penises!
Yes, contrary to many guys’ opinions, there is such a thing as too much of a good thing – or what they thought was a good thing. Penises, like va-jay-jays, only vary by so much and the chances that his will stick out (pun intended) above the rest are minimal. Yes, some are long, some are short. Some are curved to the right and some could seemingly hook a fish, but unless he’s a porn star, he won’t remain in anyone’s memory any longer than the beer-bellied, balding 30-something did.
4. Some guy is fed up with seeing nothing but guys!
On these random stranger hookup sites, there are often more men than women, especially the later/earlier it gets in any given locale. Chances are that some poor, unsuspecting, well-intentioned fellow is being barraged by the same onslaught of the almighty winky war every bit as much as the women are. The mere sight of a beautiful woman popping up on his screen might just be enough to, well, make him want to masturbate!
5. Some girl is now seeing words on the random stranger’s cam feed.
This is where things can get serious. Instead of seeing a stranger, male or female, she’s seeing words and numbers. What are they? There’s a 99% chance they’re the introduction to what is not-so-creatively called The Omegle Game (even if it’s not on Omegle).
What is it? Well, the wording varies, but the gist is short categories of things the girl can do, and point values given to each one of the actions. The more risqué the action, the higher the point value.
Again, not all are worded the same, but the desired end result is. Usually it will start off with something like, “Blow a kiss – 50 points” or “Stick out your tongue – 100 points.” Sounds innocent enough, right? Wrong! It’s just starting out that way.
Oftentimes there are other girls’ high scores displayed. These supposed high scores are utter crap and are of no use except trying to bring the competitor out of unsuspecting girls.
But, continuing, things start to become a little more questionable. “Show your bra – 1000 points” or “suck on your finger – 1500 points.” See where this is going?
Soon, the girl is being egged on and asked to “Flash a boob – 5,000 points.” Well, as soon as she has, he’s got her. She just fell into his trap. This is why he plays the game to begin with.
As soon as the girl decides she’s reached her limit, the random stranger on the other side makes it known (and sometimes with proof) that he took a screen capture (photo or video) of her naughty antics. Furthermore, if she doesn’t show more and do exactly what he requests demands, he’ll show her family, friends, school, co-workers, you name it.
Many, many girls do this. They see it as harmless (albeit adult) fun. But after being faced with possibly being outed by this faceless stranger, she feels she has to do what he says or risk total humiliation and being ostracized from her family, friends or community.
As you might assume, things go downhill from here. He eventually has the girl take her shirt and bra completely off. He then has her fondle and play with her breasts. Soon, off come her pants and underwear. He has her stark naked and doing his bidding.
No Omegle Game is over, once the victim has shown some skin, until the stranger has had enough. He won’t have enough until she’s fondled and penetrated herself. Often, he’ll have her bring in foreign objects or sex toys.
You get the idea here, but what these girls don’t think of at the time is this: Regardless of how little nudity she shows him, he’s going to post it on the World Wide Web, regardless of how “accommodating” and following of his directions she was. Nothing she could say or do will change his mind. This was his plan all along.
If there’s any consolation whatsoever though, he probably never had your Facebook information to begin with. He employed a sneaky address that, when clicked on or pasted into the address bar, takes Facebook users to their own home page. No one is seeing that homepage you’re seeing except for you. Also, the less you did to even get into this situation, the less the chance you’ll be exposed for the world to see.
What does that mean? Simple: Out of the hundreds, possibly thousands of girls who have fallen victim to this deceitful ploy, one that “just flashed a boob” is likely not going to be worth his time and trouble to post. His like-minded friends and acquaintances are going to scoff at the lack of real action and quickly move on to the girls that went much further.
All of this so some random stranger could feel powerful. It’s essentially digital rape and it’s rampant on the Internet on these types of sites. Whether it’s a roulette-style thing that pairs you with strangers, or a new addition to your streaming video chat room, these guys are everywhere.
Yes, men and women everywhere online and around the world have been naughty on the web. Few admit it, but it’s true. Regardless of age or experience, all types have shared revealing photos, private chats and video with people they barely know.
The takeaway from this should be to just be more careful, and if you’re going to do it, maybe just avoid doing it on web sites.
Those who show their naughty bits online are no better or worse than any of the rest of us. We all have our less-than-stellar habits and secrets. But no one deserves to become anyone’s victim…online or offline.
