18. Box turtles
You probably wouldn’t think the slow little turtle could do something you can’t – but you’d be wrong. After mating, a female box turtle can store the male’s sperm in an area separate from her eggs. That way, she doesn’t have to get pregnant until she damn well feels like it. She can roam around looking for a safe and comfortable environment for months, or even years, after her tawdry one-night stand. When she’s ready to have babies, she lets the sperm come into contact with the eggs and fertilizes them. Wouldn’t that be a nasty trick to play on your ex boyfriend.
